House: Helmut Lang · Designer: Helmut Lang · Season: Fall/Winter 1998
Helmut Lang Fall/Winter 1998 is famous for being the first show to be broadcast and livestreamed over the internet. This wasn't always the plan; however, Lang was originally planning to showcase the collection's 81 looks in a traditional capacity, but with the overencumbering hype of recently moving his headquarters from Europe to New York, Lang decided to take a leap of faith and do something new, moving the show online. Delivered through prerecorded livestream and CD-ROM, in what he considered a more accessible, modern, tech-forward presentation and approach to fashion, one could say, nearly 30 years later, that he might have been on to something.
